Salalah: The Dhofar Municipality is implementing three projects for scenic overlooks in the wilayats of Salalah, Rakhyut, and Dhalkut, as well as a public park in Shahb As'aib, with a total cost exceeding OMR2.85 million.
These projects are part of the governorate development programme, aiming to enhance natural features, provide new attractions, improve quality of life, and boost tourism in the governorate.
The projects include the construction of public facilities, seating areas, pedestrian walkways, and decorative lighting in locations with distinctive natural characteristics, including mountain viewpoints overlooking panoramic sea views. This will enhance the sustainability of tourism and recreational use of these sites while preserving environmental integrity and natural balance.
Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Ba'owain, Director General of Projects and Technical Affairs at Dhofar Municipality, told Oman News Agency that the completion rate for the Aftalqut overlook project in the wilayat of Salalah has reached 30%.
The project includes the construction of rest areas, seating areas, restaurants, a walkway, landscaping, and public facilities for visitors at a mountain site overlooking the sea, with a total estimated cost of OMR992,000.
He explained that the municipality has begun the second phase of the development of the Shaat overlook in the wilayat of Rakhyut, which attracts visitors and tourists year-round. The completion rate for this phase has reached 32%.
He further stated that the Shaat overlook development project includes rest areas, public facilities, seating areas, and viewing platforms on a high mountain slope overlooking the Arabian Sea, in addition to expanding parking lots and undertaking landscaping and beautification works. The total cost exceeds OMR1 million.
In the Wilayat of Dhalkut, the Director General pointed out that preparations have begun for the implementation of the Dhaym overlook development project.
It will include public facilities, seating areas, parking lots, dedicated walking paths, and landscaping and beautification works for the mountain site overlooking the sea, at a total estimated cost of OMR346,000.
These projects are being implemented in coordination with relevant authorities and with consideration for the unique geographical identity of each wilayat. In Salalah, projects are being developed for sites overlooking the sea, highlands, and waterfronts.
The wilayat of Rakhyut is witnessing the development of overlooks surrounded by mountainous formations and untouched nature, while work in the wilayat of Dhalkut focuses on preparing coastal overlooks and rest areas that suit the calm nature of the region.
Additionally, the Dhofar Municipality is continuing construction work on the public park project in Shahb As'aib in the wilayat of Rakhyut, with a completion rate of 55% and a total estimated cost of OMR468,000.
Through these projects, the Dhofar Municipality aims to enhance the tourism and recreational appeal of the governorate's wilayats during all seasons and enable local communities to benefit from these sites within an integrated development vision based on sustainability and the improvement of tourist infrastructure, in line with the objectives of the governorate development programme.
