Two workshops held as part of GCC Green Mobility Forum

Salalah: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology today organised two workshops as part of the activities of the GCC Green Mobility Forum.

The forum, to be attended by experts from the Sultanate of Oman and other GCC states, aims to support the transition towards a sustainable transport system.

The first workshop (titled "Green Corridors between GCC Ports") focused on international practices in implementing the concept of green corridors and exploring opportunities for enhancing maritime integration among GCC states.

The workshop also underscored the efforts made to cut down carbon emissions in the maritime transport sector in line with the directives of the International Maritime Organization. It highlighted the objectives of national strategies to achieve carbon neutrality (Net Zero).

The second workshop (titled "GCC Youth Leading Change in Sustainable Mobility”) dealt with means of raising awareness among GCC youth about the importance of electric vehicles as a step forward in achieving transition to sustainable energy. It included dialogue sessions on providing practical understanding of technologies related to electric vehicles and their role in achieving the goals of sustainability. It also looked into measures to establish a network among parties interested in sustainability and technology across the region.

The workshop elaborated on experiences in driving electric vehicles. It explained their advantages, the functions of charging stations and a simulation of vehicle charging. This provided participants with a practical example about the technology's great potential and encouraged its adoption.

During the workshop, a youth challenge was launched with the aim of developing initiatives to promote the use of electric vehicles in the areas of awareness and technical innovation.
