India, Iran discuss security, trade, and Chabahar Port
New Delhi: India’s Ajit Doval and Iran’s Ali Larijani held a phone call discussing trade, security, and Chabahar Port, emphasizing regional connectivity and diplomatic dialogue on Iran’s nuclear program.
India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani discussed strengthening defense, trade, and regional connectivity, highlighting Chabahar Port’s strategic role and emphasizing dialogue over Iran’s nuclear program.
Indian media reported the call took place on Sunday, September 7, where both sides reaffirmed their intent to deepen cooperation on economic, defense, and security issues.
The officials underlined the strategic importance of Chabahar Port, describing it as a vital link for regional trade and India’s access to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
Doval also reiterated India’s consistent position that Iran’s nuclear program should be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue, avoiding confrontation and maintaining stability in the wider region.
For Tehran, cooperation with New Delhi offers an economic lifeline under sanctions, while for India, it secures vital trade corridors bypassing traditional routes through Pakistan.
The conversation reflects a shared determination to balance regional security concerns with economic development, ensuring that Chabahar remains a key project in advancing broader South-Central Asian connectivity.
