The inauguration was held under the auspices of Eng. Yaqoub Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, with support from the Oman Liquefied Natural Gas (Oman LNG) Development Foundation.
Said bin Juma Al Araimi, Director of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Ras Al Hadd, noted that the Wilayat of Ras Al Hadd is an important area for fisheries production in the governorate.
He stated that the project represents a significant addition to the fishing sector, facilitating the movement of boats and vessels, supporting the fisheries sector, and encouraging investment and maritime tourism to be a tributary of sustainable local development.
Basem Nasser Al Batashi, Director of the Sustainable Development Department at the Oman LNG Development Foundation, explained that the project, supported by Oman LNG, had a total cost of OMR250,000. It encompasses various engineering and development works, ranging from geological studies and rock removal to site leveling, the construction of a breakwater, and the creation of a slipway, along with the use of environmentally friendly solutions such as solar-powered lighting.
He added that the project will contribute to providing a safe and effective area for fishing boats to anchor in deep waters, reducing risks for fishermen, and saving time and effort, thereby enhancing the efficiency of their daily operations.
The inauguration included a presentation on the project's components, its importance in boosting the local output of fisheries, and a visual presentation on the project and the services it will provide to serve economic and tourism development.
It is worth noting that the project consists of 100-meter-long breakwaters, a 12-metre-wide boat slipway, paved ground, and lighting powered by renewable energy.
