Meeting addresses economic cooperation between Oman, Belarus

Minsk: Several Omani and Belarusian officials reviewed prospects for developing bilateral relations and enhancing economic and investment cooperation between the two friendly countries during a meeting held today.

The meeting took place within the context of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit to the Republic of Belarus.

The Omani side at the meeting was headed by Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

During the meeting, the two sides explored potential areas of economic cooperation and discussed ways to develop trade exchange and stimulate joint investments in a number of priority sectors, particularly in manufacturing, technology, marketing, and food security, in a manner that reflects the approaches of both countries towards a strategic partnership based on common interests and economic integration.

Qais Al Yousef emphasized during the meeting Oman's keenness, under the leadership of His Majesty the Sultan, to strengthen its economic relations with friendly countries. He explained that Oman continues its efforts to enhance the business environment and provide flexible investment incentives to achieve economic diversification and attract qualitative investments.

On their turn, the Belarusian ministers addirmed the interest of the Belarusian government and private sector in advancing cooperation with Oman to higher levels through the exchange of delegations, organizing joint economic events, and activating institutional communication mechanisms between the relevant authorities in both countries.

Mikalai Barysevich, Director General of the National Centre for Marketing in Belarus stated: "During the meeting, we discussed means of expanding Omani investments and touched upon several areas, including the industrial sector, the timber sector, automotive parts assembly, and various other fields of mutual interest. Necessary steps were agreed upon by both sides to support these investments."

He indicated that the National Center for Marketing will exert all efforts to continue strengthening trade cooperation relations between the two countries.

Dr. Abdullah bin Masoud Al Harthy, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus to Oman affirmed that the visit of His Majesty the Sultan to Belarus constitutes a historic milestone in the path of bilateral relations between the two countries.

He stated: "The meeting that brought together the leadership of the two friendly countries has laid the foundation for a new phase of cooperation based on mutual trust and common interests in economic, investment, and cultural aspects."

He pointed out that relations between Oman and Belarus have witnessed significant developments over the past two years, most notably President Lukashenko's visit to the Omani capital, Muscat, in December 2024, the launch of direct flights between Minsk and Salalah in February 2025, the signing of an agreement to establish the Joint Committee for Cooperation and Investment in May 2025, alongside the mutual visa waiver agreement which contributes to revitalizing tourism, cultural, and medical exchange.

Furthermore, the two sides are working to enhance cooperation through business forums and exchange of trade delegations in the fields of agriculture, industry, healthcare, and information technology. This is in addition to plans to establish a Belarusian commercial center in Oman to market products in the Gulf and East African markets.

“We look forward to this partnership contributing to further prosperity and progress for the Omani and Belarusian peoples, and to consolidating the principles of peace and sustainable development," he added.

The meeting was attended by Hamoud bin Salim Al Tuwaih, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Russian Federation and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus, Andrei Kuznetsov, Minister of Industry in Belarus and Artur Karpovich, Belarusian Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade.
