Muscat: The Ministry of Labour in Oman, in coordination with the Royal Oman Police, has announced a significant extension of the grace period for expatriates and employers to rectify legal statuses and settle outstanding fines and financial obligations. The new and final deadline has been set for 31 December 2025, providing one last opportunity for individuals to regularize their residency or exit the country without incurring penalties.
The Royal Oman Police urged all affected parties to take full advantage of this extended window, emphasizing that this will be the final additional grace period offered. The updated directive provides two main exemptions:
1. Status Regularization and Transfer
Expatriates wishing to regularize their status within the Sultanate will benefit from the following:
Exemption from all fines resulting from the expiry of their entry or residence permits (applicable to work residence permit holders).
This exemption applies when the expat renews their residence permit or transfers their employment to a new employer, subject to verification by the Ministry of Labour.
2. Permanent Departure
Expatriates wishing to leave the Sultanate of Oman permanently will be granted:
Exemption from all fines resulting from the termination of all types of non-work-related visas (e.g., visit, family, or tourist visas).
Call for Compliance
Authorities are strongly encouraging all individuals and employers to take swift action before the final deadline. The initiative is part of Oman's broader efforts to streamline immigration procedures, support the expatriate community during transitional periods, and ensure full compliance with national regulations, thereby avoiding future legal complications.
