
Nizwa--- The winners of “Green Innovation Hackathon” competition, organized by the Department of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, were announced today.
The competition saw the participation of 37 students from the University of Technology and the University of Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Nizwa.
Renova team, from the University of Nizwa, won first place for producing smart asphalt from recycled glass. A team named Furat (Euphrates), from the University of Nizwa, won second place for designing a water filtration project, while third place went to MARBX team, which produced sound-and-heat insulation panels using marble waste.
Hilal bin Badr Al Rashidi, Director of the Department of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, said that the hackathon represents a platform for innovation and teamwork that brings together young people (males and females) from various disciplines to provide innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
Al Rashidi pointed out 10 out of 30 student teams that contested the competition qualified for the final stage. The contestants presented quality projects that affirmed that Omani youth possess intellect, creativity and the ability to convert challenges into development opportunities, he added.
