Oman officially announces launch of Its National Climate Platform

Brasilia:Through its participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), the Sultanate of Oman today announced the launch of its "National Climate Platform", which will serve as a strategic pillar for implementing national priorities, attracting climate finance and enhancing international cooperation.

During an event titled “Delivering climate solutions through country platforms”, Dr. Thuraya Al Sariri said, “The National Climate Platform has been developed as a comprehensive national system that serves as a centre for coordination and investment, bringing together national priorities, climate finance and international cooperation. The overall aim is to transform national strategies into practical programmes with tangible impact and to support the transition towards a low-carbon, more resilient future.”

Dr. Thuraya pointed out that the National Climate Platform stems from three basic principles: national proprietorship, partnership and transparency.

She added that the platform will use advanced digital measures to enhance transparency, track investments, measure progress and consolidate confidence with local and international partners in a manner that reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s readiness to realize impactful outcomes and global significance.

The Environment Authority is spearheading climate action, acting in partnerships with all national parties concerned, and with full openness to international institutions, the private sector and countries in the region.

The platform focuses on high priority sectors that influence mitigation and building of resilience in a manner that fits with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the Zero Neutrality Strategy 2050 (net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050). The target sectors include: clean energy and green hydrogen, water, agriculture, waste management, circular economy and private sector finance.

The Sultanate of Oman affirmed that the National Climate Platform will be one of the basic pillars for managing and coordinating all funding requests that will be submitted to international climate funds in accordance with national priorities that will be determined in partnership with all relevant parties in the country.
