Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman's electricity provider, Nama, issued a public clarification on Friday to address widespread speculation regarding the tragic deaths of six members of a family in the Al Amerat district earlier this week. The clarification directly refutes claims circulating on social media that the utility had disconnected electricity service to the residence, which some suggested may have contributed to the fatal carbon monoxide poisoning incident.

The tragedy, which occurred after the family reportedly succumbed to carbon monoxide inhalation from a gas leak inside their home, has drawn significant national attention and sparked an intense online debate concerning potential utility failures.

Nama Supply confirmed that the deceased family’s property was managed under a prepaid metering system, which requires the property owner to top up the electricity credit in advance. In a formal statement, the company extended its sincere condolences to the family while categorically denying any service interruption. "We affirm that the property where the incident occurred was not subjected to any service disconnection by the company, as the meter operates on a prepayment system initiated by the property owner," the company stated. This statement aimed to bring an end to the speculation regarding the utility's involvement in the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths.
