Top teams advance at the World Cup of Snooker 2025

MUSCAT: Team India-1, featuring Pankaj Advani, Brijesh Damani, and Aditya Mehta, delivered a commanding performance throughout the group stage to secure the No.1 seed heading into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Oman World Cup of Snooker at Active Oman Centre, Oman Automobile Association, on Friday night.

The intensity of the team competition is expected to touch a new peak as the high-stakes knockout phase begins with the last eight stage rounds.

The final will be held on Sunday at 7pm under the patronage of Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth.

Following the conclusion of the round robin stage, the top contenders were officially locked in for the championship run toward the coveted World Cup trophy.

India-1 consistency in scoring, strong frame win ratio, and technical precision made them the standout team of the opening phase.

In one of the closest seed battles of the tournament, Hong Kong China-2, represented by Chau Hon Man and Nansen Wan, secured the second seed, edging out competitors due to a superior frame average. Despite having the same frame statistics as India-1, they were placed second due to a lower highest break tally, a testament to just how tight the competition was at the top.

The remaining two direct quarterfinal spots were filled by strong performances from third seed - Hong Kong China-1 (Chang Yu Kiu & Fung Kwok Wai) and fourth seed - Pakistan (Muhammad Asif & Asjad Iqbal). Both teams displayed impressive teamwork and tactical depth, earning their place among the elite four.

With the top four seeds advancing directly, the next eight teams from the standings faced off in a high-pressure pre-quarter round.

France defeated Indonesia 3–2 to secure a quarter-final clash against India-1 while Qatar overcame Iraq-1 3–2 victory to set up a last eight clash against Pakistan.

The winners of these two quarter-final matches will face-off in the semi-finals, with chances of an exciting India-Pakistan last-four clash in the offing.

Egypt claimed an important 3–1 win over India 2, to set up a quarter-final meeting with Hong Kong China-1 and Malaysia delivered a standout performance with a 3–0 win over Afghanistan to advance and lock horns with Hong Kong China-2 in the last quarter-final matchup.

Quarter-finals: India-1 vs France, Pakistan vs Qatar, Hong Kong China-1 vs Egypt, and Hong Kong China-2 vs Malaysia.
