
Paris: Omani Researcher Dr. Moza Ali Al Saadi won second place in the 2025 “UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education”. The list of nominees to the prize’s first edition comprised 154 constestants from 76 countries,
Dr. Moza merited the award for her initiative themed “Digital Citizenship for Empowered Learners”. The names of winners were unveiled yesterday during a ceremony held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
Dr. Moza’s initiative focused on a conceptual framework she had developed as part of her doctoral research. The initiative envisaged the propagation of the knowledge, skills and values necessary for an ethical, safe and responsible interaction with the digital world, besides linking the same to the national identity.
As part of her efforts to realize this initiative, Dr. Moza conducted training workshops targeting students of schools and higher education institutions, curriculum specialists, teachers, supervisors, school principals and parents.
The initiative also included raising public awareness through radio interviews and the publication of articles on the concept of ‘digital citizenship’.
Funded by the Republic of Korea and awarded every two years, the UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education seeks to reward the efforts of individuals, institutions and organizations that prepare young generations for responsible citizenship.
The award values the candidates’ efforts in promoting cultural exchange, public life and 'digital citizenship' in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4—notably Goal No. 7 on promoting education for peace, human rights, sustainable development and global citizenship.
Dr. Moza works as a senior specialist at the Citizenship Department, Ministry of Education. She holds a PhD from Sultan Qaboos University (Information Studies, Digital Citizenship Practices) and a Master's degree in Educational Measurement and Evaluation, also from Sultan Qaboos University.
Through her experience at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Moza worked as an English language teacher and served as a member of the Curriculum Development Team that compiles the curricula on identity and citizenship.
Dr. Moza also gained academic experience when she served as a visiting consultant at the Information Studies Department (at Sultan Qaboos University) and an associate professor at the Department of Records and Archives Management (at A’Sharqiyah University).
