Omani-Turkish Joint Committee meeting  focuses on raising trade and investment

Ankara; The Omani-Turkish Joint Committee, during its 13th session held in the Turkish capital, Ankara, reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries across a range of fields, with a focus on identifying practical priorities and translating them into joint programmes and projects in key economic and development sectors of mutual interest.

The Omani side was headed by Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, while the Turkish side was chaired by Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Türkiye.

Discussions focused on trade and investment, including the current status of bilateral trade, mechanisms to diversify traded goods, and means to increase trade volumes.

The meeting also addressed activating the role of business councils, forums and exhibitions, and promoting joint investment opportunities, particularly in e-commerce solutions, shared platforms, and shipping and re-export services.

The committee examined prospects for cooperation in industry and industrial zones, covering joint manufacturing, knowledge and technology transfer and localisation, linking innovation with manufacturing, and collaboration in industrial zones, special economic zones and free zones.

In the areas of specifications, standards and accreditation, the meeting discussed cooperation in training and the exchange of expertise in conformity assessment and accreditation, digital transformation in standardization activities, and cooperation in metrology.

The committee also reviewed opportunities for cooperation in financial and banking services, small and medium enterprises, transport and logistics, energy and mining, within frameworks of technical cooperation, exchange of expertise, development of logistics corridors, and supply chain integration.

Other areas of focus included tourism, culture and sports, education and higher education, scientific research and innovation, as well as health, environment, urban planning, media and capacity building.

During the session, a memorandum of understanding was signed in the field of education, aimed at enhancing educational cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Türkiye.

The meeting was attended by Saif bin Rashid bin Saif Al Jahwari,, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Türkiye; Engineer Hamoud bin Salem Al Saadi, Second Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Sheikh Salem bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Omani side of the Omani-Turkish Joint Business Council; and a number of officials from both sides.

On the sidelines of the committee’s work, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion met with

Ömer Bolat, Minister of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye, to discuss prospects for trade and investment cooperation, ways to increase trade volumes, and enhance private-sector partnerships, in addition to reviewing issues of mutual interest.

He also met with

Mehmet Fatih Kacır Minister of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, during which they reviewed opportunities for cooperation in industry, knowledge and technology transfer, joint manufacturing, and the formation of technical working groups to support industrial partnerships.

Separately, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion organised a roundtable meeting with Turkish investors to promote investment partnerships and explore opportunities for economic cooperation.

 The meeting, held as part of Oman’s strategy to expand its international partnerships and strengthen ties with major industrial economies, brought together senior investors, CEOs and representatives of leading Turkish companies.

The meeting highlighted four priority sectors—industry, energy, tourism and health—showcasing promising investment opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman and strengthening bilateral cooperation in these areas.

The business dialogue provided a direct communication platform, presenting Oman’s competitive advantages, including its strategic geographic location, political and economic stability, supportive legislative framework, government incentives, and major development projects, reinforcing its position as a regional investment hub.

This visit forms part of the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to expand its presence in promising markets and continue a series of business dialogues aimed at strengthening international economic relations and opening new investment opportunities.

Turkish investments in the Sultanate of Oman have recorded notable growth, with the number of Turkish companies operating in the country increasing by 21 percent by the end of September this year, alongside an 18.7 percent rise in the volume of Turkish investments, reflecting strong investor confidence in Oman’s investment environment.
