
Muscat: On the occasion of the sixth anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s accession to power, the Diwan of the Royal Court issued a landmark statement unveiling a series of major initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of Omani citizens and accelerating national development.
The statement, dated 21 Rajab 1447 AH (January 11, 2026), reflects His Majesty’s enduring commitment to improving living standards and fostering inclusive economic growth. The initiatives span employment, education, housing, and social protection, and are set to be implemented as part of Oman’s Eleventh Five-Year Development Plan (2026–2030).
Key Measures Announced:
- Economic and Investment Projects:
A total of OMR 50 million has been allocated to support projects with economic and investment returns that generate employment opportunities for citizens. This funding comes through an increase in the budget for the Governorates Development Program, which rises from OMR 220 million to OMR270 million under the new five-year plan.
- Educational Support for Students:
Financial aid will be provided to over 73,000 school students during the academic year. These students belong to families registered under the Family Support System within the Royal Oman Police’s national records. The aid includes a doubled grant for school supplies, disbursed through the Social Protection Fund.
- Expanded Social Protection Benefits:
His Majesty has approved amendments to the social protection benefits system, increasing support for low-income families. The number of families eligible for the Family Support Grant will exceed 57,000, and the total number of beneficiaries of social protection programs in 2026 is expected to reach approximately 1.6 million.
- Accelerated Employment Program:
The government will fast-track the implementation of the 2026 Job Seekers Employment Program, which includes 60,000 job opportunities. Of these, 10,000 will be in the civil and military government sectors, while 50,000 will be offered through government-owned companies and private sector institutions.
- Housing Support:
A sum of OMR 100 million has been earmarked to support the Social Housing Program for the years 2026 and 2027, aiming to provide secure and affordable housing for eligible citizens.
- Extended Job Security Allowance:
The duration of the Job Security Allowance has been extended from six months to one year for all eligible insured individuals whose entitlement does not exceed one full year. Further details will be announced by the relevant authorities.
