Madrid: The Sultanate of Oman participated on Wednesday in the International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR 2026, held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, from 21 to 25 January.
The Omani delegation includes a number of institutions and companies operating in the travel and tourism sector, hotel establishments, and several strategic partners.
Through its participation in FITUR 2026, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism aims to strengthen Oman’s presence in one of the world’s largest travel and tourism exhibitions. It seeks to highlight Oman as a sustainable global tourist destination that offers diverse, innovative tourism patterns and luxury experiences.
The Ministry is also working to introduce the latest developments in Oman’s tourism sector and hold meetings with major international tourism companies to discuss sector-specific topics.
Additionally, the delegation is attending accompanying conferences and seminars that showcase the latest updates, statistics, and trends in the global travel and tourism industry. The participation provides an important promotional and economic platform for Omani tourism companies, enabling them to establish direct communication channels with major global tourism firms through the exhibition’s database.
Furthermore, the Ministry seeks to intensify strategic partnerships with international tourism bodies and deepen cooperation to develop the Omani tourism sector to record levels of growth and attractiveness.
This effort aligns with global aspirations and trends, directly contributing to increasing the tourism sector’s contribution to national income, boosting tourist traffic to the Sultanate of Oman, and empowering tourism establishments to provide services of high quality and excellence.
Haitham Mohammed Al Ghasani, Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, noted that these global exhibitions represent an opportunity to introduce the unique and innovative tourism patterns found in Oman.
He highlighted that environmental, natural, and geological factors have made Oman a distinct destination that meets various aspirations. He added that the participation of major tourism institutions from around the world at FITUR 2026, alongside leading media organisations, helps in executing effective promotional programmes.
On his part, Anwar Said Al Balushi, Director of the Tourism Events Department at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, explained that the importance of participating in FITUR lies in it being the first major international tourism fair organized at the beginning of each year.
As one of the largest tourism exhibitions in the Kingdom of Spain, it features more than 9,000 exhibitors from approximately 150 countries and includes over 800 pavilions, with attendance expected to exceed 150,000 visitors.
He emphasised that the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is keen on its annual participation in this international event, alongside several Omani tourism institutions, to provide integrated promotion for Oman and introduce its most prominent landmarks and diverse tourism experiences.
Al Balushi noted that the participation includes a series of pre-scheduled meetings with major global tourism companies, as well as several media interviews with representatives of international press, contributing to the enhancement of Oman’s presence on the global tourism map.
