Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education, joins the world in celebrating the International Day of Education, observed annually on January 24, under the slogan “Youth power to participate in shaping education.” The occasion affirms the pivotal role of young people in developing educational systems and building a sustainable future.
The Sultanate of Oman embodies this slogan through a range of national initiatives and policies that place youth at the heart of the educational and developmental process, most notably their involvement in formulating Oman Vision 2040, reflecting confidence in their capabilities and their contributions to shaping the future.
In this context, the Sultanate of Oman has achieved notable progress in the 2023 Youth Development Index, advancing to 33rd place globally, an improvement of 19 positions, underscoring its continued commitment to empowering youth and enhancing their active participation across various sectors, particularly the education sector.
The Ministry of Education has introduced technical, vocational, and technological education tracks in secondary education to keep pace with labour market requirements and enhance students’ readiness for future opportunities.
The Ministry also supports the participation of Omani youth in international forums, including the UNESCO World Youth Forum.
The Ministry continues its efforts to activate the Youth Declaration issued by the Education Transformation Summit through the formation of the National Team to Follow Up on Greening Education, with the participation of youth institutions.
In addition, it organises ongoing youth dialogue sessions for university students with decision-makers on issues related to leadership, innovation, and the labor market.
These efforts complement national initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, most notably the Youth Ambassadors Project and the Youth Excellence Award, which contribute to developing youth skills and strengthening their role in society.
The Sultanate of Oman’s participation in the celebration of the International Day of Education reaffirms its approach to empowering youth and consolidating their role as active partners in building a knowledge-based society and achieving sustainable development.
