5.2 magnitude earthquake recorded northwest of Khasab

Muscat: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was recorded on Friday afternoon, February 13, 2026, in the region northwest of Khasab. According to the Earthquake Monitoring Center (EMC) at Sultan Qaboos University, the tremor occurred at approximately 3:08 PM local time.

The seismic activity was centered roughly 386 kilometers northwest of Khasab, placing the epicenter in the southern Iranian region, which is seismically active. Preliminary data indicates the quake struck at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometers.

While the distance from the Musandam Peninsula is significant, residents in high-rise buildings in Khasab and surrounding areas of the northern Emirates may have felt light swaying. As of Friday evening, there have been no reports of injuries, structural damage, or disruptions to essential services in the Musandam Governorate.
