
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), held a session of talks on Thursday.
The session discussed several topics of mutual interest, most notably the development of modern agricultural technologies, efficient water resource management, and the enhancement of aquaculture. The talks also focused on supporting innovation and investment in the agricultural, livestock, and fisheries sectors to increase added value and improve production efficiency.
The session was chaired by Dr. Saud Hamad Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and by Dr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).
The two sides explored opportunities for implementing joint programs and initiatives in the fields of scientific research, knowledge transfer, and capacity building, in alignment with global trends toward achieving food security and sustainable development.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources emphasised the depth of the relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the FAO, noting the continuous development across various sectors, particularly agriculture, fisheries, and water resources. He expressed Oman's aspiration to expand the horizons of joint cooperation to contribute to enhancing agricultural and livestock production, achieving sustainability, and supporting the food security system.
For his part, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) praised the comprehensive developmental renaissance witnessed by the Sultanate of Oman across various sectors under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. He affirmed the organisation's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Oman and supporting its efforts to achieve food security and sustainability.
The session was attended by undersecretaries of the ministry, several ministry officials, the FAO Representative to the Sultanate of Oman, and a number of officials from the organisation.
