The Labour Market Committee at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) reviewed a number of challenges related to the employment environment in the private sector during a meeting chaired by H.E. Mohammed bin Hassan Al-Ansi, Chairman of the Committee. The meeting was attended by several committee members and was held at the Grand Hormuz Hotel in Muscat.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the current stage, which requires integrated efforts and unified visions among the various concerned entities to support the private sector and enhance the efficiency of the labour market in the Sultanate of Oman, in line with economic development goals and the creation of sustainable employment opportunities.
The committee also discussed the importance of reviewing and regulating the structure of the labour market in a way that promotes economic growth and contributes to generating new job opportunities. The meeting further emphasised the need to empower, regulate, and protect freelance work from practices of hidden trade, encouraging Omani youth to move towards freelancing and entrepreneurship.
The meeting also addressed the importance of strengthening vocational education and training as one of the key enablers for job creation, given the large number of technical and professional jobs required by the labour market. The committee stressed the importance of developing vocational education pathways and aligning educational outcomes with the needs of economic sectors to help qualify national talents for the professional roles required in the market.
