Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is participating in the 32nd edition of the World Seafood Expo, which will be held next week in Barcelona, Spain, and will run for several days.
The Omani pavilion at the expo includes representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), and the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, in addition to eight Omani factories specializing in the processing and packaging of various seafood products, through strategic partnerships.
His Excellency Engineer Yaqoub bin Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries and head of the Omani delegation, stated that the Sultanate of Oman's participation in this exhibition is of strategic importance, as it is one of the most prominent international exhibitions specializing in the fisheries sector, bringing together leading experts and investors from around the world.
Al Busaidi emphasised that this participation contributes to strengthening the Sultanate of Oman's presence in global markets and promoting its high-quality seafood products.
His Excellency added that participation in the World Seafood Expo stems from the Ministry's and other Omani entities' keenness to open new export opportunities and attract quality investments in the fisheries sector. This participation also aims to explore the latest technologies and practices in fishing, processing, and marketing, thereby supporting the sector's development and enhancing its competitiveness according to international standards. This, in turn, contributes to maximizing economic returns and increasing its contribution to the GDP, aligning with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
It is worth noting that the 32nd edition of the World Seafood Expo in Barcelona is the largest in the event's history, with over 53,000 square meters of exhibition space and wide participation from more than 80 countries and 62 national and regional pavilions.
This year's edition also includes the launch of a dedicated platform for startups and innovators in the aquaculture sector to showcase the latest solutions in technology, marine animal health, and sustainable feed.
