Oman to hold seminar on 'Al-Masarrat Depression: Response and Impact'

Muscat: The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) will organise a seminar on Monday titled “Al-Masarrat Depression: Response and Impact”, aimed at reviewing the effects of the recent weather system and evaluating national response efforts, lessons learned, and future preparedness strategies.

The event will be held under the patronage of Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, and will be attended by officials and specialists from governmental, military, and security agencies across Oman.

The seminar will examine several key areas, including a detailed review of the meteorological characteristics of the Al-Masarrat depression, its impact across different governorates, and the coordinated national response carried out by relevant authorities. It will also focus on strengthening preparedness mechanisms and improving institutional coordination in managing similar weather events in the future.

According to organizers, the discussions will highlight field experiences from response teams, challenges encountered during operations, and solutions implemented on the ground. These insights are expected to contribute to enhancing the efficiency of emergency response systems and improving rapid decision-making during severe weather conditions.

The program will also emphasize the importance of public awareness and adherence to official safety instructions issued by competent authorities, alongside a review of legal frameworks and procedures that support effective emergency management and risk reduction.

In addition, the seminar will address the ethical and religious dimension of protecting human life, underscoring it as a key objective, while encouraging precautionary behavior in line with religious teachings that stress avoiding danger and safeguarding lives.

Organisers expect the seminar to produce a set of recommendations aimed at improving national emergency response plans, strengthening inter-agency cooperation, enhancing preparedness for extreme weather events, and promoting the adoption of best practices in crisis and disaster management.
