GCC Traffic Week activities begin in Dhofar Governorate

Salalah: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) Command in the Governorate of Dhofar celebrated yesterday the inauguration of the activities of the 38th Unified GCC Traffic Week 2026. Held under the slogan “Cross Safely,” the events are scheduled to continue until 7 May.

The opening ceremony, held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Compound for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, was held under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, in the presence of Brigadier Said Hamad Al Balushi, Commander of the Dhofar Governorate Police.

Lt. Colonel Ahmed Khalifa Al Shukaili, Director of the Dhofar Traffic Department, delivered a speech in which he emphasized the importance of enhancing traffic awareness among community members and raising road safety levels. He explained that the week’s activities focus on increasing awareness, reducing accident rates, and strengthening the concept of community partnership.

The ceremony programme included the opening of a traffic exhibition corner, a purposeful theatrical performance embodying the slogan of the GCC Traffic Week, and the honoring of contributors and participants in the events.

The activities of the Unified GCC Traffic Week in Dhofar Governorate include an integrated package of awareness programs and activities implemented by the Directorate General of Traffic at the Royal Oman Police.

These aim to enhance traffic safety and consolidate community culture among various segments of society.

The activities include conducting awareness lectures in educational institutions and workplaces, establishing field awareness points for road users, and utilising traditional and digital media as well as modern technologies to ensure that awareness messages reach the largest possible segment of society. -ONA
