Session engages Oman’s youth to achieve economic goals

Muscat: The National Youth Committee (NYC) conducted an engagement session with the youth to shed light on the national programme for enhancing economic diversification ‘Tanfeedh’.
The session was attended by Idris Jala the minister and CEO of Pemandu, the Malaysian body established to support the implementation of Malaysia’s national transformation programme and helping Oman’s Tanfeedh and the management team of the national programme headed by Talal Al Rahbi, the general coordinator of Tanfeedh and other members of the team.
The session took place at the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) on Tuesday. And Mohammed Al Hinai, member of Tanfeedh’s management team gave a presentation on the national programme and answered the audience’s inquiries associated with it.
Jala expressed the vital role the youth play in Oman’s future in general and the national programme for enhancing economic diversification in particular. Representatives of youth initiatives, students, and job seekers attended the engagement session to get an overall idea about the Tanfeedh.
Tanfeedh’s management team and the NYC assured the importance of engaging the young population of Oman, as more than 60 per cent of the country’s population below 40 years old. Hence, the vital role they play in being part of the national initiatives toward solid and diversified economy to sustain the welfare of Oman.
Tanfeedh comes as a mechanism of action for achieving the goals of the 9th Five-Year Plan, and overcoming the obstacles to achieving the goals of economic diversification and the growth of the size of the Omani economy that include making necessary amendments to the laws and regulations, identifying the priorities, providing the necessary project financing, agreement on the tasks and responsibilities and delivery dates, leading to an increase in the GDP, promoting of capital investment, providing job opportunities for citizens, and making the targeted sectors in the 9th Five-Year plan an active substitute of near-total rely on oil.
Tanfeedh is working on the formulation of a clear mechanism of action and according to a specific timetable, and indicators to measure performance, to be effective at the beginning of next year.
The programme is summarised into eight steps represented in starting with identifying the scope of work by defining the strategic areas of focus, labs attended by all relevant those concerned with the domain or sector to develop it and find appropriate solutions to it, on the condition that the government agencies are represented in no more than 40 per cent in each lab, compared with 60 per cent to private sector, academics, civil society and youth.
