Muscat: The Ministry of Information will premiere the documentary “Dakhtar Thoms or Dr. Thoms” on Wednesday with a screening at the ministry’s theatre, attended by media figures, intellectuals, historians and cultural content creators.
The documentary chronicles the life of American physician Wells Thoms, whose story is intertwined with the history of healthcare in the Sultanate of Oman. It blends historical narration, re‑enacted dramatic scenes, archival materials and footage shot in Oman and the United States.
The documentary traces the early journey of the man locally known as “Dakhtar Thoms” and key milestones in his medical and humanitarian work, documenting a chapter of Oman’s social and health transformation.
The Ministry of Information is working to strengthen national documentary production that offers a visual reading of modern Omani history, combining academic research, creative storytelling and contemporary digital techniques to help preserve national memory. Previous releases include the three‑part documentary Beit Al Ajaib (House of Wonders) and the Oman TV programme “Walana Athar,” which highlights timeless Omani figures.
The Ayn platform also hosts audiobooks and audio‑visual programmes on Omani history. The ministry is also laying the groundwork for a feature film about the historic voyage of the Omani vessel “Sultana.”
