Salalah: The 5th edition of Salalah Engineering Forum, organized by Oman Society of Engineers, began in the Governorate of Dhofar today.
The two-day forum is held in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals under the title "Engineering energy transition: applied innovations for a resilient clean energy infrastructure".
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
The forum focuses on four main themes: "Integration of renewable energy and energy storage"; "Resilience of grids and artificial intelligence in energy"; "Removing carbon and low-carbon hydrogen"; and "The efficiency of energy and the circular economy".
The event reviews 22 papers during four working sessions. It also includes two panel discussions, with the participation of researchers and specialists from eight countries: The Sultanate of Oman, Libya, Qatar, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, India and Denmark.
The forum deals with the latest trends and technical solutions that pertain to the evolution of the energy sector. It also elaborates on the role of innovation and engineering in developing a more efficient, flexible and sustainable infrastructure of energy.
The first day of the forum included an exhibition featuring solutions and initiatives in the fields of engineering and energy, in addition to a display of projects competing for the Energy Horizon 2026 Award. The exhibition showcases the programmes, solutions and initiatives of a number of academic and private institutions. It also includes graduation projects from a number of universities in the Sultanate of Oman, notably engineering solutions and innovations that support transition in the energy sector.
On the sidelines of the forum, Oman Society of Engineers signed a cooperation agreement with the Office of the Governor of Dhofar to enhance support for professional and engineering initiatives in the governorate, in addition to boosting the governorate’s status as a platform for specialized engineering dialogue that serves the tracks of sustainable development.
