Malaga: Omani designer Asfar Hamran Khamis, owner of the “Leetchi Dhofar” fashion house, participated in the fifteenth edition of Fashion Week in the Spanish city of Malaga, which saw the participation of a number of designers and specialised fashion and design brands from Spain and beyond.
The Omani house’s participation is the first of its kind by an Omani fashion house in this event, and the third by an Arab designer. During the event, the house presented a collection of designs inspired by Omani attire of Dhofari character, with its rich colours, embroidery and aesthetic details, within a contemporary vision that preserves the features and identity of traditional dress.
The Fashion Week events were held on Calle Marqués de Larios, one of the most prominent streets in the city of Malaga, which was transformed into an open-air runway extending for approximately 300 metres, with the participation of a group of designers and creative talents in the field of fashion and design.
Khamis said her participation in Malaga Fashion Week represents an important milestone in the fashion house’s journey and expressed her pride in representing Oman and presenting an aspect of Dhofari fashion to an international audience.
She described the “Al-Ahd” collection as both a responsibility and an opportunity — a responsibility to present Omani fashion in a manner befitting its heritage, and an opportunity to introduce international audiences to the richness and diversity of Omani culture and its distinctive fashion traditions.
Khamis noted that being the first Omani fashion designer to participate in the show would encourage her to continue promoting Omani fashion at international forums and take elements of the country’s heritage to wider audiences while preserving their identity and distinctive character.
The fashion house’s participation in Malaga follows its previous appearances in Moscow and Abu Dhabi, marking its third international platform.
Through its international participation, the house seeks to promote designs inspired by traditional Omani fashion through contemporary interpretations, while highlighting the colours, intricate details and traditional motifs of Dhofari dress.
The participation also contributes to showcasing Oman’s cultural and aesthetic diversity and promoting elements of its traditional heritage to international audiences.
