Sur: A seminar titled "Optimal Planning Towards Resilient Infrastructure" commenced on Monday in the Wilayat of Sur, Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah. The seminar was organised by Oman Water Society in cooperation with the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The seminar was held under the patronage of Dr. Yahya Badr Al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, with the participation of an elite group of specialists, experts and representatives of government and private entities and academic institutions.
The seminar comes within the framework of enhancing integration between scientific knowledge and practical experience, establishing effective channels for the exchange of expertise among various sectors, and translating experiences and practices into practical solutions that contribute to building more resilient, flexible and sustainable infrastructure, in a manner that copes with the development approaches and in alignment with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
The seminar aimed to enhance planning for more flexible infrastructure capable of adapting to challenges and changes, in light of the exceptional climatic phenomena and emergency situations witnessed by the world and the region, thereby contributing to raising levels of readiness, mitigating the effects of risks, accelerating recovery, and ensuring the continuity and sustainability of essential services.
The seminar included panel discussions addressing, most notably, the impact of climate change on infrastructure, emergency management and mechanisms for dealing with it effectively, and sustainable urban planning, in addition to reviewing regional and international experiences and practices, and the lessons learned from the emergency situations witnessed by the Sultanate of Oman.
