Nizwa-- The forum titled “In the Eyes of Youth”—that was organized by the Consumer Protection Department in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate —wound up today, with a recommendation to adopt an initiative themed “Ambassadors of Consumer Protection Culture”.
The initiative was one of key recommendations made at the forum’s closing ceremony held under the patronage of Sheikh Hilal bin Said Al Hajri, Governor of A’Dakhiliyah.
The two-day forum, which took place at Nizwa Cultural Center, aimed to develop young people’s knowledge of their rights and duties as consumers, enhance their awareness about safe shopping and e-commerce and engage them in proposing solutions for addressing challenges related to consumer protection.
The forum included a hackathon to generate ideas, discuss consumer challenges and present proposals for solutions that leverage the knowledge and skills of youth. It was also recommended that such solutions be linked to the needs of society and to requirements for developing services in the field of consumer protection.
The workshops of the forum laid emphasis on consumer rights and duties, smart ways to deal with purchasing options and means to identify goods that are prohibited in Oman markets. In addition, the forum underscored the role of “Hema” electronic platform and the services that this consumer protection platform extends to members of the public, to help establish sound consumer practices and to keep abreast of shifts in shopping patterns.
