Muscat bourse fails to sustain momentum

Muscat: In a dull market, the MSM 30 Index couldn’t sustain Sunday’s momentum and closed at 5,686.55 points, down 0.10 per cent. The MSM Shariah Index ended at 877.81 points, up 0.26 per cent.
Bank Nizwa was the most active in terms of volume as well as turnover. The top gainer was Takaful Oman, up 2.36 per cent, while Oman United Insurance was the top loser, down 2.78 per cent.
As many as 486 trades were executed on Monday, generating turnover of OMR1.79 million with 11.8 million shares changing hands. Out of 37 traded securities, 9 advanced, 12 declined and 16 remained unchanged.
At the close of the session, GCC and Arab investors switched to net buyers to the tune of OMR92,000 worth of shares while Omani investors were net sellers at OMR83,000 followed by foreign investors, who sold stocks amounting to OMR9,000.
Financial Index declined 0.60 per cent to close at 7,386.49 points. Takaful Oman and NBO increased 2.36 per cent and 0.42 per cent respectively. Oman United Insurance, Bank Dhofar, Al Madina Investment, Al Sharqia Investment and Al Izz Bank declined 2.78 per cent, 2.68 per cent, 1.67 per cent, 1.60 per cent and 1.43 per cent respectively.
Industrial Index ended at 7,411.49 points, up 0.12 per cent. Oman Cement and Al Maha Ceramics advanced 2.29 per cent and 0.82 per cent respectively. Oman Fisheries, Galfar Engineering and Al Anwar Ceramics declined 1.56 per cent, 0.94 per cent and 0.50 per cent respectively.
Services Index gained 0.14 per cent to close at 3,063.22 points. OIFC, Ooredoo, Sembcorp Salalah and Omantel increased 1.03 per cent, 0.59 per cent, 0.42 per cent and 0.32 per cent respectively.
