Muscat: Oman Cricket launched its ambitious project of having an state-to-art modern cricket academy with a stone laying ceremony at the cricket facilities in Al Amerat on Tuesday.
The foundation stone for the proposed academy was laid by Oman Cricket chairman Sheikh Kanak Khimji. Top Oman Cricket officials and other dignitaries were present during the ceremonial function in the morning.
As part of Oman Cricket’s commitment to provide facilities in support of the growing popularity of the game in the Sultanate, the academy building that will house the Center for Excellence based on ICC regulations is expected to be ready by the start of the fourth quarter in 2017.
This Cenrer for Excellence features eight indoor practice nets with simulated different playing surfaces and monitoring systems for hands-on coaching and shall be geared to provide for both male and female players of all ages and levels.
The Academy building at the ground floor level shall house offices for Oman Cricket, and also provides a professional gymnasium along with dedicated dressing rooms for home and away teams.
On the first floor, Oman Cricket offers serviced corporate boxes looking out onto the playing field and a serviced restaurant to serve both patrons and visitors.
The Academy building (Centre for Excellence) is the pinnacle of development that Oman Cricket has been engaging over the years, starting with the grassing of two playing fields, provision of high-mast lights to enable day-night matches, and the ongoing works for external 12-lane practice nets.
Huckle and Partners LLC is the architect and Abu Hatim CO. LLC has been awarded contract to construct this new academy building.
