Oman aviation: Muscat Airport passenger traffic rises by 9%

Muscat: Passenger traffic at Muscat International Airport went up by 9 percent to 940,158 in October from 864,804 in October last year. The percentage increase was even more from January to October. The number of passengers rose to 9,946,064, up 17 percent from 8,466,973 during the same period last year.
Civil aircraft movement at the airport went up by 6 percent to 8,842 in October compared with 8,335 during the same month last year. From January to October, aircraft movement rose by 9 percent to 85,479 compared with 78,702 in the same period last year.
During the same month, Salalah Airport registered a 12 percent increase in passengers to 84,482 from 75,501 in October last year. From January to October, 1,017,420 passengers touched down at the airport compared with 865,337 in same period last year, an increase of 18 percent.
On the other hand, civil aircraft movement at the airport fell by 8 percent to 790 in October from 858 in October last year because airlines used large aircraft to increase their passenger intake. The number of passengers passing through Duqm Airport rose by 35 percent to 2,222 in Octobercompared with 1,650 in October 2015. Aircraft movement also increased by 6 percent during the month to 36.
Celebrations
Meanwhile, Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) held a competition to celebrate the 46th National Day. As part of the competition, each division had to decorate and design its units within a set budget. The divisions hadto incorporate elements of the OAMC’s strategy into the decorations while keeping in mind the company’s vision, mission, purpose, and values.
Speaking about the celebrations, Fadhila Al Mukhaini, media and public relations specialist of OAMC, said that the company’s employees eagerly await such competitions to show their love for the country and loyalty to His Majesty the Sultan.
“We wait for these competitions every year because it gives us a chance to truly express our love for the country and loyalty to His Majesty,” Al Mukhaini said.
“In all simplicity, these competitions challenge us to come up with new ideas to decorate our offices and celebrate the occasion (National Day),” she added.
Another staff member said that people used these opportunities to express their feelings about the country’s National Day.
“We always take this blessed opportunity every year to express our good wishes on such important occasions andalso show our appreciation and loyalty to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos,” Amani Al Balushi, ICT officer of OAMC, said.
Furthermore, during the meeting of the Council of Manpower Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on November 15, 2016, the OAMC won an award for excelling in recruitment of Omanisin jobs.
OAMC currently has 1,200 employees of whom 93 percent are Omanis.
