Power production rises in Oman

Muscat: The Sultanate’s gross electricity production surged 4.4 per cent by the end of September 2016 to 26,613.3 GW/H as against last year’s output of 25,169.5 GW/H during the same period, says the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
There has also been a significant 11.5 per cent increase in the quantity of water generated during the period, which reached 246.9 million cubic metres (Cu. M).
The Governorate of Muscat recorded a 27.5 per cent drop in gross electricity output at 3,161.9 GW/H. The Governorates of Dhofar, Musandam and A’Dhakhliyah increased their gross electricity production by 2.8 per cent, 2.0 per cent and 2.2 per cent, respectively to 2,566.2 GW/H, 289.3 GW/H, and 1,017.5 GW/H.
The Governorates of North and South Al Batinah and the Governorate of A’Dhahirah produced 14,278.5 GW/H of electricity, marking a rise of 10.8per cent over last year.
The Governorates of North and South A’Sharqiyah increased gross electricity output by 18.5 per cent to 5,022.1 GW/H.
The Governorate of Muscat produced the largest quantity of water during the nine-month period at 113.54 million Cu. M, which is a growth of 10.8 per cent over figures for the same period of last year.
The Governorate of Dhofar logged a 28.7 per cent rise in water production at 31.69 million Cu. M. The other governorates together achieved a 7.8 per cent increase in water production at 101.62 million Cu. M during the period compared with last year.
