Muscat: Arrests have been made in separate cases of human trafficking and prostitution, the Royal Oman Police revealed.
One of two victims identified by police managed to escape from her captor and pleaded for help from an Omani family.
A senior official at the Royal Oman Police said: “The two cases are similar with regards to the crime but differ in execution. The first case involved the victim running away from her sponsor’s house after she was accused of stealing and not getting her salary.
“So she searched for other jobs that she could get paid daily by going from one house to another until an Asian man took advantage of her and detained her. He invited people to sleep with her for money.”
The official explained that she was able to escape over a fence and sought refuge with an Omani family who protected her until the police arrived. In a similar case, Ruwi Police received a report about an Asian woman in her twenties who was taken to hospital for treatment.
“She revealed that she was the victim of abuse from the hotel manager she was working in a hotel for as well as her colleagues for failing to practice prostitution,” said the official. After investigations, 11 Asian women have been arrested from a hotel adjacent to the one the manager runs.
The official said that the Criminal Investigation Department found that the women arrived to the Sultanate with domestic workers visas. All suspects in both cases were sent to the public prosecution.
