Muscat: Mazoon Dairy, Oman’s premier dairy company founded under the national food security initiative, awarded an initial contract to enable site for the company’s large dairy project in Buraimi.
The project will have a capacity to produce 202 million litres of milk per annum by 2026.
Abu Hatim Co, One of Oman’s leading construction and engineering company, has been awarded the contract that will be signed on December 25, 2016.
A tender for pre-qualifying local companies to develop the farm, dairy plant and associated facilities at Al Sunaynah in Buraimi have also been floated earlier this year.
“We are delighted to note that the project is progressing to the execution stage with the award of this site enabling works contract. It is in our mission to address the self-sufficiency in dairy production. When operational, the integrated facility will comprise a state-of-the-art dairy farm, a fully automated centralised processing plant and related sales and distribution facilities ensuring product reach within Oman and the wider region,” said Dr. Rashid Al Masroori, chairman of the board of Mazoon Dairy.
The dairy farm is planned to house 25,000 Holstein Friesian cows over a period of 10 years. The facility will have a state-of-the-art cow cooling systems and fully automated milking parlour.
The processing plant will process fresh milk, laban, yoghurts, juices and ice cream of the highest quality upholding international standards with HACCP and ISO certification. The products will be marketed under a brand that reflects Oman’s cultural values and national pride.
Mazoon Dairy project will create extensive opportunities for employment and growth of small and medium enterprises in the Sultanate, and particularly encourage Omanisation.
“Our goal is to produce approximately 202 million litres (per annum) in 2026, which will go up to 985 million liters in 2040. This will greatly reduce the Sultanate’s import dependency from 69 per cent in 2014 to 13 per cent in 2026. The long-term goal is to attain self-sufficiency and also export to neighboring countries in the Middle East,” added the chairman.
