Muscat: International praise has been been heaped upon an Oman student. Samira Al Balushi, a student at the Oman Tourism College (OTC) who attended a UN work camp held in South Korea last July, received praise from the Korean National Commission for UNESCO for her essay detailing her experiences at that camp.
Six students from the OTC had attended the Korean work camp, and were the only students from the Middle East selected for the 10-day youth programme.
Her essay, which describes her camp experience, including exposure to diverse cultures and involvement in sustainable community development programmes, was among the three submissions selected by the commission to be published in UNESCO’s monthly report. In addition, she was selected by the Network for Voluntary Development in Asia (NVDA) to join their annual meeting and work camp training course in Indonesia, which has been scheduled for February 2017.
This meeting might result in assisting in organising work camps in the Sultanate.
