Muscat: A presentation on Oman's National Innovation Strategy was made by Dr. Sharifa bint Hamoud Al Harthiyah, Manager of the National Innovation Strategy Project, at a media meeting held at TRC premises.
The Research Council (TRC) continues its effort to introduce the National Innovation Strategy, which has been approved by the Council of Ministers before implementing it on the national level to achieve the national objectives highlighted in the strategy.
The National Innovation Strategy which will be implemented through a carefully studied and balanced executive plan that includes activating of all effective links and relationships among all elements and components of this system.
The presentation included the structure of the strategy which relied on analysing indices of the Sultanate in three main international indices namely competitiveness, international innovation & knowledge based economy and science and technology indices.
She added that the Sultanate is going ahead with plans to enhance the number of scientific researchers to reach the international level by focusing on science and technology program to improve the intellectual property, patency and scientific publication index.
She also pointed out that the Sultanate came first on the Arab level at the international innovation index in terms of graduates of engineering and science of the total number of higher education institutes graduates.
She also noted that the National Competitiveness Office will be the national observer for the National Innovation Strategy in terms of following up the indices and monitoring them; which covers 13 international indicators.
