As we enter the last month of summer, we look back at the top five headlines from the past week with Times of Oman's News Rewind:
Fuel prices for the month of August were announced, with prices going up this month. M95 petrol will now cost 186 baisas per litre, compared to 183 baisas a litre last month. M91 petrol will cost 178 baisas a litre compared to 175 baisas in July. The price of diesel has gone up to 196 baisas a litre from 192 baisas a litre in July.
Yet another accident on Sunday night on the Salalah Road left eight people dead, five of them Omani citizens. The crash took place when two cars collided.
This week also saw heavy rainfall in various parts of the Sultanate, with the Directorate General of Meteorology predicting three days of heavy rainfall after thunderstorms and flashfloods in the previous week.
Three citizens were arrested in Muscat, in connection with armed robberies in the Ruwi area in the wilayat of Muttrah. According to police sources, the suspects transported the victims in their vehicle and robbed them under the threat of a knife.
And finally, an Asian man wanted for murder in his home country was arrested by police in Oman, after he entered the country illegally. The man confessed that he managed to leave his home country and enter another Gulf state, whose police authority had arrested him. However, the individual managed to escape the Gulf country's police and entered the territory of the Sultanate of Oman illegally.
