Muscat: Poachers carrying weapons have been arrested in Oman, police have revealed.
According to a statement released today by the Royal Oman Police, “We apprehended three individuals, including one GCC national, after receiving information of a vehicle whose passengers were poaching in al Fateh, Dhank.
“The poachers were found with a number of firearms, communications devices, handheld torches, as well as ocular devices and deer meats,” the statement added.
The Ministry of Environmental and Climate affairs said, “The individuals also misused local plant and fungal life. First calls to the police were made by local fungal life wardens.”
In a similar case, three other individuals in two vehicles were apprehended near Yinqil. These individuals also possessed firearms, said ROP.
The ministry urged all tourists and citizens to not destroy the local wild-and-plantlife. It said, “These acts violate article 15B of Royal Decree 6 of the year 2003, which states that any individual who kills, harms, or smuggles any of the wild and plantlife of addendum 1 will be sent to prison 6 months to two years. These individuals will also be fined anywhere between OMR1000-5000”
