Muscat: Chinese multinational Huawei plans to launch its state-of-the-art smartphone Huawei Mate 10 in various international markets on October 16. The new smartphone will be unveiled in Oman soon after the global launch, Bill Yu, country director of Huawei CBG Oman, told Times of Oman. Also, Huawei will soon introduce the Huawei artificial intelligence (AI) chip. The key selling points of the Huawei Mate series include long battery life, security, its large screen and powerful chipset that deliver better performance.
Huawei’s flagship device is aimed at the business elites who are looking for a smartphone that supports their productivity needs. “Last year we launched Mate 9 in Oman at OMR240.9,” added Yu.
Huwawei has a market share of 20 per cent in the smartphone market in Oman, while in the entire Middle East region, its share was some 13.8 per cent in May, 2017.
Yu said Huawei’s smartphone introduction to the Oman market was in 2013, followed by Adhwa Al Billa Trading signing a strategic partnership with Mohsin Haider Darwish (MHD) in 2016.

“Both distributors can take care of Huawei after-sales service, and we launched the Huawei exclusive service centre in Al Meera Hypermarket, Sultan Qaboos Street, in 2015,” he added.
Huawei aims to personalise its customer service, while continuing to build its global consumer service platform. There are now some 800 Huawei service stores covering over 60 countries that offer comprehensive service solutions to consumers, while promoting Huawei’s high-end brand image. Yu noted that Huawei ensures quality service to users around the world through service hotlines which are now accessible in 105 countries and 64 languages, while official localised websites and self-service apps cover over 100 countries.
“We continue robust growth and rapid penetration in high-end markets,” added Yu.
Earnings in the first half of 2017 amounted to 105.4 billion Chinese yuan, presenting a year-over-year growth of 36.2 per cent. In addition, Huawei smartphone shipments reached 73.01 million units, an increase of 20.6 per cent year-on-year. According to data from IDC, Huawei’s share of the global smartphone market climbed to 9.8 per cent as of May 2017. The tablet business registered remarkable growth against a sluggish market, with shipments growing almost 60 per cent year-on-year.
