Muscat: Thousands of supporters of Oman’s football team have already arrived at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Boushar to cheer on the national team, which has returned home after winning the Gulf Cup in Kuwait on Friday evening.
A special parade and government reception has been accorded to the team, and is expected to begin at 5pm this evening. The Oman team that arrives at the stadium is sure to be greeted by an overwhelmingly enthusiastic reception by its supporters, who have arrived en masse, and are happily waving flags of the Sultanate and holding aloft portraits of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, as they chant slogans and sing songs in praise of the national team.
Oman’s football federation confirmed the same, tweeting, “The plane carrying the national team has left Kuwait now, and is heading towards our beloved Sultanate, carrying our triumphant heroes and their trophy.”
Oman beat the UAE 5-4 on penalties at the Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City on Friday, their second triumph since they won it on home soil in 2009.
