Muscat: A series of workshops focussing on providing specialised business consultancy for incubated companies were organised by the National Business Centre (NBC) under a Mashura initiative on Monday.
The NBC, falls under the umbrella of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE). Held at a Riyada incubator under the auspices of Hamad bin Khamis Al Amri, undersecretary at the Ministry of Manpower, the Mashura event also highlighted the rights of employers and employees.
Officials from the Ministry of Manpower explained various issues related to these rights and emphasised that the ministry is making significant efforts for supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The ministry has trained a number of its employees—around 201—who deal constantly with the owners of SMEs in cooperation with the Public Authority for SMEs Development.
Among the topics discussed during the Mashura event were Omani Labour Law, its definitions and provisions; employment of citizens and regulation of foreigners’ work; work contracts; wages, leave and working hours; labour disputes; labour unions and Oman’s General Union of Workers; and penalties. It should be noted that the Mashura initiative consists of a series of workshops that deliver specialised consultancy in business for the incubated companies. Topics discussed during these workshops included entrepreneurship and law, tenders and contracts, company values, among others.
NBC is an initiative launched by PEIE at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM), which offers promising Omani entrepreneurs a platform to develop their business ideas and advance them into growing ventures.
The centre offers a premier platform for Omani entrepreneurs by providing business development support and guidance, training and mentoring, access to markets and industry experts, and state-of-the-art and fully equipped office space, meeting rooms and presentation
facilities.
