Fake news: Environment ministry clears up rumours of oil spill in Oman

Muscat: Refuting social media rumours that an oil tanker had washed ashore in Dhofar governorate, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs put out a statement on Tuesday clarifying that the vessel was a cargo ship and would have minimal impact on the environment.
In its online statement, the ministry said, "Referring to the photos circulated through social media about a ship that washed ashore in Dhofar governorate, the ministry would like to note that the ship is used for (cargo) transport and is not an oil tanker ship. The expected effect of the ship is limited as the ministry along with other competent authorities swung into action to mitigate all the environmental hazards of the ship, despite the current weather conditions."
The ministry added that it is following the situation and hailed the keenness of the public to preserve the Omani environment.
