Kerala CM asks expat Malayalis for a month's salary to rebuild state

Muscat: The head of Kerala's state government has called on Malayalis all over the world to donate a month's salary to help rebuild the South Indian state.
A statement posted on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's official Facebook account read, "All Malayalees must come together to create a new Kerala. The power of Kerala is not the size of the government's treasury. Rather, the strength of Kerala lies in its global support. Any nation can overcome any crisis if its people work together."
While adding that money 'would make the reconstruction effort difficult,' Vijayan appealed to Kerala's large diaspora community to provide much needed support.
"Malayalis around the world should donate a month's salary. If they cannot, they can provide three days' worth of salary over a ten month period. Expatriate Malayalis should do what they can to support their fellow citizens."
