Muscat: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has helped a consumer recover OMR10,000, officials from the body have announced.
Authorities said that the consumer filed a complaint with PACP. The complainant said that he had contacted a business to provide materials for construction work, but the company did not provide it within the agreed period, despite paying for the materials.
This act, according to officials, went against Article (19) (77/107). According to the article, "the supplier is not allowed to: cause a delay in supplying the goods, not perform the agreed service, or not complete them on time.”
In a statement online, PACP said, "Accordingly, the authorities reviewed the complaint and carried out the regular procedure. The company was contacted and a friendly settlement was reached between the parties. The company then agreed to return the complete value of the item to the consumer, which is OMR10,000."
The Complaints Department at the Public Authority for Consumer Protection in Muscat managed to recover the whole amount in a friendly settlement as part of its efforts to resolve complaints received by consumers. This is done to ensure that consumers enjoy all their rights guaranteed by the Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations and the decisions issued by the Authority.
