UAE begins VAT tax refunds for tourists

Muscat: Tax officials in the UAE have begun refunding tourists for Value Added Tax (VAT) purchases according to a statement from the Abu Dhabi Chamber.
The authority said, "As of today, @uaetax will start refunding the VAT for eligible tourists to recover tax incurred on their purchases, using a digital system for the Tax Refunds for Tourists Scheme at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, Dubai International Airport, and Sharjah International Airport."
Previously, authorities revealed that preparations are underway for phase two of the scheme, which will go into effect on December 16, 2018 and will allow overseas tourists to claim refunds of taxes at all participating UAE airports, land and seaports.
VAT was first implemented in the UAE on 1 January 2018.
