Tennis: Kaavya crowned U-16 champion at ISC

MUSCAT: Kaavya Jayakumar was crowned the Girls Under-16 singles champion at the Annual Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Oman.
Kaavya emerged winner after downing Stuti Mathur 8-4 to win the title. Kaavya dominated the match from the word go and played forceful ground strokes on both flanks and raced to a 4-2 lead. Stuti regained some ground but Kaavya proved too strong. Kaavya broke again for the crucial 7-4 lead and served out the match.
The duo of Mohan Kannan and K.K. Girish will take on giant-killers Ram V. and Ravi Tej in the men’s doubles final this evening.
In the semi-final, the team of Mohan Kannan and K.K. Girish downed Shanawaz and Vikram 6-0, 6-4 while the team of Ram and Ravi Tej advanced to the summit clash after defeating the duo of Suhail Khan and Prithvi Raj 6-4. 6-1.
