'His Royal HEYness' - Americans delighted for Meghan and Harry after new royal baby birth

London: Members of the British public and their cousins across the pond celebrated the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's first child, a baby boy that is the first half American born in the British royal family.

The child, dubbed 'Baby Sussex' after his the dukedom of his parents, is also a quarter African American. He is also a dual citizen.

His father, Harry announced his birth yesterday saying, "I'm very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning, a very healthy boy. Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. its been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagine.

"How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehensive, but we're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everybody out there. From everybody out there, it's been amazing."

In a statement, the UK's royal family said the child was 7lbs 30z.

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news," the statement added.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who married the couple last year, said, "Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their baby boy. May God bless the new family with love, health and happiness."

Netizens in the states also were overjoyed at the news.

Writer Micheline Maynard said, " #BabySussex is half American, a quarter African-American and its parents have more than 5 million social media followers. In addition to being royal. I can’t wait to see him."

American nonprofit United Service Organizations (USO) tweeted this message next to an image of Markle with the organisation, "Congrats to USO tour veteran and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, on the birth of her baby boy! In 2014, Meghan joined the USO Chariman's Holiday Tour - spending the holidays with deployed service members."

Meg Cabot, author of the Princess Diaries said in a message, "HRH Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia is pleased to congratulate their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their baby boy!"

Markle's former Suits co-star Patrick J. Adams tweeted, "Just heard that the world just got heavier by 7 pounds and 3 ounces. Much love to him and his incredible parents. Learned first hand 7 months ago how transformational becoming a parent is and couldn’t be happier for Meghan and Harry as they begin this adventure."
