Expat arrested for breaking and entering, theft in Oman

Muscat: An expat of Asian nationality was arrested for breaking and entering as well as theft, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) announced today.

According to officials, the accused broke into shops in Muscat governorate and stole cash.

"The Criminal Investigation Department led by Muscat Police Command arrested an expat of Asian nationality over breaking into shops in a number of wilayates of Muscat and stealing cash from them," the police statement said.

It added: “The defendant broke into shops with the help of an iron screwdriver. It turned out that the accused entered the country on a visit visa and used a rented vehicle while he committed his crimes.”

The defendant was referred to judicial authorities to complete the legal proceedings.

ROP called on shop owners to comply with the necessary protective requirements in order to prevent their shops from being burgled and to install monitoring devices as much as possible.
