Expat to face jail term, deportation for selling tobacco illegally

Muscat: A man has been jailed and fined for sending explicit messages to a woman, the Public Prosecution has said.
The court sentenced the accused to 18 months in prison and imposed a fine of OMR5,000.
He was also ordered to pay OMR1,000 in compensation to the victim as well as legal expenses. The mobile phone used in the crime was confiscated.
The Public Prosecution didn’t reveal the nationality of either the accused or the victim.
A report from Public Prosecution stated: “The accused was referred to the Criminal Court on November 15, 2016 for violating the Cyber Law. The accused used his mobile phone to send indecent messages to a woman on WhatsApp asking her to have sex with him for OMR50.
“On examining his phone, it was found that the same number had been used to send other messages to the victim, luring her into immoral acts and debauchery.”
