Imported sheep seized in Oman

Muscat: 100 sheep have been confiscated from a farm in Al Batinah, after the owner sold a flock of untested livestock at a local market, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries said.

According to the Ministry, the owner had failed to get the sheep tested before selling them in the market. This could have led to health hazards.

In a statement online, the Ministry of Agriculture said: "The Ministry, represented by the Directorate General of Agriculture and Fisheries in Al Batinah governorate, managed to seize 100 sheep."

"It was found that the importer had taken some of the livestock to be sold in Sohar market before completing the quarantine procedures stipulated in the Veterinary Quarantine Law, which may pose a danger to consumers' health."
