Muscat: Oman's star batsman Jatinder Singh will make his debut in the Irish cricket league after the national team's participation in the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 competition in Jersey later this month.
In a press statement issued by Oman Cricket on Sunday, the association general secretary Madhu Jesrani said: "We are pleased to announce that Oman national team top order batsman Jatinder Singh will be participating in the main first division Irish Cricket League, representing Cork County. This exchange partnership was arranged in liaison with the Irish Cricket Board and will take place immediately after the conclusion of the World Cricket League 5 in Jersey."
Meanwhile, national team head coach and Oman Cricket's chief development officer Duleep Mendis said he was very pleased with the arrangement and was confident this will add major top level experience and exposure for the star batsman.
Jatinder will also be fulfilling coaching and cricket development commitments in Ireland while playing for Cork County. The stint is scheduled to take place from June 1 to 15 September 15.
The 27-year-old Jatinder Singh made his Oman national team debut at the 2011 World Cricket League Division Three tournament. Born in Ludhiana, India, to Punjabi parents, and raised in Oman, Jatinder represented the Omani under-19 side in five matches at the 2007 ACC Under-19 Elite Cup.
Jatinder completed his schooling at Indian School Muscat and is currently employed with Khimji Ramdas.
"Oman Cricket would like to wish Jatinder Singh all the best for his new opportunity. We would also like to thanks Andy Wooten from the Cork County club for coordinating and making this agreement possible," the Oman Cricket statement added.
